Looking for a job may seem straight forward but if you want to give yourself the best shot at securing the position, there are a few tactics you can use to increase the odds of landing that dream job.

The best approach to take begins before you even step through the door for the interview and it all starts with your resume. A good resume depicts who you are, what you’re about and what level of skill and competency you have in general and then more specific to a job.

Don’t be afraid to make a custom resume that is specific to one position when applying for the job. This ensures that any skills you have that are relevant to the job are amongst the first thing the employer reads about you.

Upon receiving an invitation to interview for the position, your best bet is to come dressed in formal attire. This includes a suit, tie and polished shoes. Ensure your clothes are clean and wear only a little cologne as some people may find the overpowering smell to be offensive.

When meeting the person who will be interviewing you, introduce yourself and give he or she a firm handshake. You want to display a confident but not overly dominant disposition because this can gain their trust and confidence in your abilities.
